Manager of the Recreation Division F/T - Under the direction of the Director of Community Services, responsible for the organization and supervision of a variety of recreational sports and activities; conducts planned activities with assigned groups, implements programs for all ages, and initiates projects and reports on their progress; does related work as required.  This position includes varying hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as needed. A minimum of two (2) years experience planning, promoting, and developing recreation programs at a recreation facility or community center; or graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in recreation or similar field required.  Valid NJ driver’s license required. Definition:

Under the direction of the Director of Community Services, the Manager of the Recreation Division is responsible for the organization and supervision of a variety of recreational sports and activities; conducts planned activities with assigned groups, implements programs for all ages, and initiates projects and reports on their progress; does related work as required.  This position includes varying hours including early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed.

Examples of work:

Plans, develops, and implements a variety of recreational activities, and supervises the progress of each activity in or out of the facility.

Inspects fields for playability during early morning hours, according to sports season and field usage.

Monitors and supervises the Program Supervisor[s] in the Recreation Division.

Organizes trips, tournaments, socials, teams, schedules, etc.

Arranges coaches, timekeepers, scorekeepers, site supervisors, event staff and transportation accommodations as may be necessary for various programs. 

Oversees and schedules the fields and facilities of the Township, informs the public of fees charged for use of facilities and of services available, and checks to see that the public is provided with these services or equipment when appropriate and available.

Prepares reports concerning progress of proposals for programming, special issues, recommended actions, and related job situations and opportunities.

Updates the Township’s website and registration software system.

Creates requisitions and purchase orders in municipal finance system.

Ensures all new and seasonal employees submit proper onboarding paperwork.

Adding and deleting of employees with the finance department.

Monitoring, collecting and submitting all payroll to the finance department.

Observes, records and reports unusual problems and situations.

Attends meetings as necessary.
Organizes and retains essential records and files.

May demonstrate and explain techniques, procedures, materials, equipment, and supplies used in recreation programs.

Responds quickly and appropriately to potentially hazardous situations; reports all incidents and accidents according to established procedures.

Welcomes visitors, answers incoming telephone calls, and records messages accurately. 

Gives information according to department regulations, in person and by telephone.

Assists in purchasing products to be used by the department for operation and various activities.

Creates and distributes various marketing tools such as fliers and e-mail blasts.

Requirements:

A minimum of two (2) years experience planning, promoting, and developing recreation programs at a recreation facility or community center; or graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in recreation or similar field. 

License:

The Manager of the Recreation Division will be required to possess a valid NJ driver’s license, and must have a safe driving history.  The position will require the use of a Township vehicle at times.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of methods and problems involved in supervision of recreational programs that meet specific community needs.

Knowledge of computer Software, including: WORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK and online registration systems.

Experience with municipal finance systems, specifically Edmunds, is a plus.

Ability to plan, promote, initiate, and organize recreational activities for individuals and groups of all ages.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates, and the public.

Ability to guide and encourage participation in recreational programs.

Ability to maintain essential records and files.

Ability to learn various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the office.

Ability to prepare reports.

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Ability to assist in instructional tasks.

Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions, and to learn quickly from oral and written explanations, as well as from demonstrations.

Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with participants, associates, and the public.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
